Another way to explore the DMZ in South Korea (at the same itinerary as the Seoraksan mt)
The way you can explore the DMZ on the same itinerary as the Seoraksan Mt.
The Seoraksan Mt is the most loved landmark in South Korea. But few visitors from abroad know you can also explore the DMZ on the same itinerary as the Seoraksan Mt. If you plan to visit the Seoraksan, don't miss out on this article because this is the chance to save time.
Most visitors to South Korea consider exploring the DMZ and choose the Gyeonggi-do province route near Seoul which is run mainly by commercial tourism.
But if you choose a Gangwon-do province route, it would be much less crowded and much more likely an actual private tour. You don’t have to hurry just follow a coach tour as a member of a group.
Here in Ganwon-do also, there is a fascinating place where you can view North Korea at the border, the unification observatory in Goseong.
Did you notice that there used to be a legal tour to North Korea for South people? The Kumgangsan mt which is in North Korea is the most beautiful in the Korean peninsular.
There used to be over two million people who visited the Kumgangsan mt from South Korea in some times.
There are still official buildings such as immigration, quarantine, and Customs services that were used when there was a pink mood between the South and North.
Even though it is not in use due to the political tension, it still shows there is a possibility to develop a relationship between both Koreas.
Here on the way to the Kumgangsan Mt, there is the unification observatory where you can view North Korea and experience the DMZ. This is the closest spot that you can view North Korea than anywhere else.
If you want to feel and view the most hostile neighbor in the world, this would be a perfect place. But don’t be afraid because they are not that much hostile, rather they may want to be your friend just pretending hostile to cope with a powerful nation.
To visit the Observatory Unification in Goseong, you have to take a step for registration and inspection by the army force. Don’t forget to have your ID or passport!
And there is no public transportation so you need to have your own car. In fact, it seems like it is a bit hard to come by themselves for foreign visitors.
Nevertheless, this is the most fascinating route to view North Korea because you can explore the whole route to North along the crystal east sea and you can see a part of Kumgangsan Mt that is a source of pride for North Korea. Even more, this region used to be under the North Korean regime before the Korean War in 1950 so if you are lucky, you may have a chance to meet old people who still remember the time under communism.
By the way, how much do you know about the DMZ in South Korea? Let's learn more about the DMZ.
